Enjoying God, Making Friends & Changing Lives

Social Action

Social Action

Action Foundation grew out of a desire to meet the needs of those groups who were least provided for in our City. Exploring this idea led to the birth of what was initially a housing project, but today has grown to encompass work with non English speakers, and a befriending project to support isolated, older people from around our City.

Action Housing provides accommodation to destitute Asylum seekers and refugees who have no other options. In addition to helping with housing we provide mentoring support to help our tenants cope with many of the associated pressures of Asylum and adjusting to life in a new country.

  • Action Language is a totally free language school for those people in our City who are unable to access English language teaching elsewhere. We run a number of classes during the week and help with literacy and numeracy
  • Action Befriending works in partnership with other agencies such as Help the Aged to provide support and friendship to older people who are isolated. Volunteers might help with shopping, play a game of chess or simply visit for a cup of tea once a week.  On the last Tuesday of the month we run a free afternoon tea and activities club at The CastleGate from 2-4pm.  For more info phone 0191 231 3113 or email befriending@actionfoundation.org.uk

All these projects are changing lives of people in our community and our volunteers! To find out more about Action Foundation or to volunteer or donate click here.
