Enjoying God, Making Friends & Changing Lives

Action Foundation

Action Foundation is an award-winning charity that was started by citychurch. Their free English language school and supported housing projects support refugees, asylum seekers and other migrants experiencing isolation, homelessness and extreme poverty in Tyne & Wear. There are many ways you could get involved with Action Foundation:

Action Language provides free English courses in Newcastle and Sunderland city centre. The aim is to provide ESOL classes to refugees, asylum seekers and other migrants unable to access mainstream classes in a supportive environment.
All of their free classes are taught by qualified (CELTA or above) volunteer teachers and supported by enthusiastic and motivated volunteer classroom assistants. If you would like to get involved with Action Language as a volunteer in either of these roles visit their volunteer page for more details.

Action Hosting was set up following people’s desire to help refugees when the migrant crisis grew over the summer of 2015. The project matches volunteers offering a spare bedroom in their home with a destitute asylum seeker for an agreed period of time. To date this project has provided over 2,600 nights of accommodation to vulnerable destitute asylum seekers living in Tyne and Wear! The Action HOSTING project are looking for people with a spare bedroom that can support an asylum seeker in their own home for a short period of time

Action Housing provides accommodation for destitute asylum seekers with no recourse to public funds, (sometimes known as failed asylum seekers). Men and women who came to the UK seeking safety from persecution in their home country but who have since been refused protection by our government. Despite this, many cannot return home leaving people in limbo with no support and no-where to live. Through Action Housing we are currently supporting 13 destitute asylum seekers across 4 properties in Newcastle, Gateshead and Sunderland. Since 2006 we have provided safe and secure accommodation to 56 vulnerable beneficiaries.
